Featured Ballast? Or not. Maybe not even antique?

    Hi friends,
    My husband brought home a few more finds from his mold removal job and this silver thing. Some in an old unmarked box with another mounting part- but no words.

    he thinks it’s an old style light hanger. I can’t picture what he’s talking about. Can anyone tell me what it is? What it’s for?

    depends what's inside the cup....

    In a fluorescent lighting system, the ballast regulates the current to the lamps and provides sufficient voltage to start the lamps. Without a ballast to limit its current, a fluorescent lamp connected directly to a high voltage power source would rapidly and uncontrollably increase its current draw...

    I've seen those two screws before ...for wires that go from one base to another with several low voltage mini lamps strung across the wires..
