Basket 4 from the collection

    Basket 4. Kinda cool, doesn't match anything that I've ever seen from Africa, so I'm guessing made for the tourist trade. But I'd love an opinion if anyone has one.

    I think this one is from Ethiopia. Although I cannot find an exact comparable, the techniques and colors are consistent with other Ethiopian basket trays I have seen, such as this one on etsy -

    When were your parents in Africa?

    Edit: Sorry, I just noticed you had said in an earlier post that they were there in the 1980s-90s. I am having trouble finding good comparables for this period - not old or traditional enough to be in museum collections, but different from current commercial and tourist forms. Not a period that is well documented.
