Baskets, baskets, baskets!

Hello!

I was hoping someone here might be knowledgeable concerning baskets who could give me a bit more details about these pieces (who/where they were made etc). Tribal art isnt really my speciality (doesnt stop me from collecting it!) so I am hoping someone can give me some details so that I can research more into them. Thank you for your time!

None of these are NA, so wait for Taupou to come along and give you the straight dope.

 

I had a suspicion they probably werent NA and I was leaning towards African. After reading another "related post" on baskets it lead me on an African basket search. It appears the last one is an Ethiopian basket (with gazelles?) and the green/blue one appears to have similarities to baskets from Botswana. If someone could confirm this who knows African baskets. The first two I am unsure of. They were all purchased at completely separate times so they didnt come from the same collection.

 

The last two are "southwest designs" made in Pakistan. Made from ilala palm fiber, and designed to fool the unaware buyer into thinking they are buying an authentic Native American basket.

The middle one is African, made by baTonga women, in the Binga district of Zimbabwe.

The only thing I can say about the first one, is to confirm that it is not Native American.
