This Brown Bear is 6" High and 7.5" long. It is made out of stiff fabric with soft stuffing. Fabric looks like it is woven and maybe coated. I think it is stitching on the bottom, might be a signature. Have any of you ever seen an animal made like this?

I have a cat and frog that were made of a sort of canvas weave fabric, stuffed and then painted. Their "coats" look a bit rougher than this bear looks on the screen, though.

Could be oil cloth. You can compare with this bear.

Thanks for all your input. We had a couple of oil cloth toys when I was growing up and they were shiny. I even told the lady I bought this from that it reminded me of oil cloth. After Debora posted her bear, I looked on ebay for more oil cloth toys and found some where you could see the texture.
Would oil cloth would date this to pre-1960?

He looks more like the faux "antique" objects I have seen in "vintage" decorator malls, rather than a genuinely old toy, particularly with the ceramic(?) fish suspended from his mouth.

We have several Xmas ornaments made in the last 40 years that are oil cloth. None are signed.

I wouldn't think he was pre-1960s. He has a very modern sensibility.
