Featured Beautiful brooch

Beautiful silver and enamel brooch...

Any one know history of this beautiful piece, all I can find on back is marking “005” or it could be a 6? I’m sure it was handmade...

 

Probably 800, silver content. Late 19th into early 20th. silver, cloisonne enamel and filigree. I suspect Turkish or somewhere round that neck of the woods.

The 006 is 900 upside down. The 900 mark was mostly used in the royal city of Fez, before 1925. In those days the fineness of .900 was approximate, with a fair tolerance.

The flower with eight petals signifies the wearer was Arab or Moorish Muslim. Other faiths and ethnicities had other symbols or flowers with fewer petals.
The Arabs originally came from the Middle East, and colonised Morocco and other parts of North Africa. In this region Moor(ish) is generally a name used for people with mixed Arab and Berber ancestry.

Old doesn't necessarily mean valuable, and Moroccan jewellery from that period is not very rare.
You didn't mention the size but it looks pretty small. I take it you are in New Zealand? If it is ca 3-4 cm across, retail value would be about NZ$35 - 65, so not something for separate insurance, just to enjoy.
