Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Any information about this vintage carved green pin would be appreciated. Could it be jade? The carving is a flower. It is marked sterling on back. But there is no mark for who made it

    Thank you

Well That is great news for me. I had a so-called appraiser offer about $10 for it.
I just did a search and realized there is a lot of different types of jade some worth a lot and some not so much.

If had to determine if it is valuable or not, is there a test I could do--or would I have to go to jeweler? I could weigh it.

Nice Chinese export jadeite piece, generic made around first third of 20th with older carved ornaments. You won't find a specific maker...:)

yes, I will take some more photos now. The one mark on the bottom edge says "Silver" imprinted. I think the other mark you are referring to is in the middle of the long needle part and I am really trying hard to see that. Will include photos of both. Did you see marks somewhere else

HIGHLY unethical for an appraiser to offer to buy.Id show them the door instantly.

Yup, lovely bit of Chinese export. That back is typical.

Thank you for your expert opinion. I greatly appreciate it. Could you kindly tell me if it has any significant value-- say over $100? And if possible what are the key words I could use to search for similar pieces.

Had a jewelry store expert come over and appraise jewelry and he would say what he would pay for it. Most things under $50 and almost all under $100. Found many on ebay for a few hundred dollars or more. Very dispiriting experience.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Personally, I would GO TO a couple of jewelry stores, with GOOD SOUND reputations, and ask for verbal appraisals....

The main thing I am trying to figure out is if it is valuable. Is there anyway I can get a rough idea of that. When I search ebay using keywords from post above there is a wide variety of prices.

Do you have a magnifying glass or loupe? Finding out what those marks are could help in narrowing your search for prices.

I have a lighted loupe 10x I think and magnifying glasses. Can not see anything discernible. Here is my best photo of mark.

Do you think there is a imprint mark there?

There’s definitely a mark there. So frustrating when they are so tiny.

Thank you for letting me know.
I can not see it with loupe. I think it is 10x. Is there something I could buy to see it?
