Beautiful Floral Vase?

    My mother in law purchased this and ask me to post this and see if I could find any information on it. If you have any knowledge about this piece, please let me know.     It looks to be French Empire Style and hand painted but from what I can see of the the base that looks modern.

    I tried to lighten the photo of the base but not sure it helps. Perhaps a photo of the base with a little less glare would be helpful.

    Since it has a lid, I think it's intended to be some sort of jar, not a vase.
