    Hi to everybody,

Just discovered on the web auctions..This little Oriental Ceramic Tea Pot that I would like to bid for...One and half day left....!!!
it does look Oriental...I like this Decoration and Green color....But I don't know How old it is...From where it is...Nothing....My first Impression is that it might be Japanese as per the Lion on Top...and the Sparrow bird as design.....
If you could help me....Thanking you in advance...Would love to Buy it...!!! JB
My photos are not very clear..Hopping they can help.

It could be a caterpillar instead of a lion.
The pics are very bad, and none of the base. But with the scant information we have, I was thinking maybe Japonaiserie/Japonisme? So 19th century European made, in the Japanese manner?
Maybe @Ownedbybear can cast an eye on it.

It doesn't look like a teapot to me. With that lid, I wonder if it is a tobacco humidor?

You have to wonder if it was listed as a teapot or if we have a language barrier. No spout, no handle--that tea would really be stewed. It's a tobacco jar.

    I was wondering that too.
A teapot would have a spout and a handle, and wouldn't have those large holes in the lid.

Okay, if it is a tobacco jar or humidor, what is the purpose of the large hole and small holes under the lid? The shape is right, the size is probably right, but I personally cannot find any examples with such a lid?
    Thank you

    Hi,
A tobacco humidor needs a damp sponge in the lid to keep the tobacco moist.

A humidor can be a wooden box with a hydrometer or regulater built in the bottom of the top of the lid to maintain moisture for the cigars so they do not dry out.

SAME concept for the canister style. You would wad up cotton cloth or a sponge(wet) and insert it in the top of the lid to add humidification to the contents, whether it be tobacco or cigars.

Could be a good buy regardless. Teapot collectors will mostly not be interested, and tobacco jar/humidor collectors are unlikely to see it with that description.

Don't know it's value under either description.
