    Hi,
I agree it is really nice, looks older than 1951 but that frame does not do for me. I would hang it in a minute but just not that frame. Did I say I love the painting?

Nice find, Mango. I do agree with Greg that it's in a much older style than 1951 (both the image and the frame,) though. I don't see a date in your attachments. How do you know it's from then?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Could it be 1851?

    Thanks for the replies.
The painting indeed looks older, but it's definitely from 1951. There's the date below the signature, though the frame hides it. The painter lived from 1893 to 1973.
The frame is older than the painting, i guess the painter (or someone else) re-used and older empty frame.

Is it me...or is it cockeyed?

    Leaning toward the left.
    Trees should go straight up.
The water would all run out to the left.

Yeah...must be. The horizon line is dead on square.

Although old-fashioned the picture clearly looks like 1950s.

The frame is 1950s-60s, emulating an antique, but not really one, likely original to the painting.

Mango - there is an option of posting the images right in your post so we don't have to click on thumbnails to see them.

I think the frame is detrimental to the painting. It's too florid for my taste.

You know, if you click on the title rather than the thumbnail, the picture opens in a new window.
