Ben Davidson, Haida artist, has just passed away, apparently of a heart attack, at age 44/45, according to Douglas Reynolds Gallery. His Haida name was tlajang nang kingaas meaning “the one who is known far away.” The son of Robert Davidson, he followed his father's footsteps as one who both followed the form-line tradition, and innovated upon the tradition; and like his father he was dedicated to preserving and expanding Haida culture in dance, language and song. This is a terribly sad and sudden loss to his family, and to the Haida people and the art world.
