Featured Berkey & Gay Pieces

Hello everyone!

Was wondering if you could tell me the value of a couple Berkey & Gay pieces I have. I have photos attached of the two pieces. Would greatly appreciate any advice! Thanks!!

How did you come by these items?
R U looking to sell, insure, or just hang on to them ?
Can u provide extra pics of the inside and back and underneath ?

We need much more info than you've given in order for any member who wishes to , to suggest a ballpark value.

This is not a site for valuation...but it gets offered on occasion provided we know enough to make a fair market opinion.

That site includes dating info for the B&G marks. You can compare yours to the ones they show to determine possible age:


(Looks like it's in the latter part of the company's history.)

It's a start, anyway.

 

Edited ! Those are the only pics I have. They're a friend of mines and he was going to give them to me. I am unsure if they have any real value. I considered painting/redoing the taller/scuffed up piece if they're valueless.

Ca. 1935-40 Jacobean Revival pieces. No, they're not worth much, but they've got some nice color and I'd hate to see them painted.

 

Berkey and Gay furniture is among the cream of the crop when it comes to this type of furniture. While the condition is not top notch, it is not beyond reasonable restoration. Values are currently down for brown furniture. However, if it is to rebound, pieces such as this are likely to gain value a lot faster than some others. If you search Berkey and Gay on ebay, you will see some pretty high prices. Little of it sells right now but this should give you some idea of potential value. I too would hate to see this painted.

 

Well said, Brad. Victorian Berkey & Gay is not as well known, because it wasn't labeled like the 20th century stuff. But Brad's evaluation pertains there as well: Absolutely top notch Renaissance Revival and Eastlake furniture, mainly tables and bedroom sets. There is often a set or two on E-Bidet, high priced as well, although the owner rarely mentions (or knows?) that its Berkey & Gay.

 

Apparently the Berkey & Gay factory still stands in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It's now condos:

Speak for yourself! I am looking into my magic 8 ball and I see... it's coming into focus now.... yes, it's a TABLE with a Berkey & Gay mark!
