    This is another piece I found at a thrift store today (as well as a M&M store display figure; talk about from one end of the spectrum to the other!) - it is large (just under 27" tall x 12" wide), very nice, detailed wood carving and VERY heavy - heavy enough that it has a chain instead of a wire or string to hold it up on a wall!
    Is this a Tiki mask?
    What kind of wood is so heavy?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Did they fill the holes with plaster?

    Looks like the background cement is showing thru the mask.

    Where is cement or plaster? I didn't notice anything like that but I will look tomorrow in daylight - where do I look?

    Just a "decorative" wall hanging. Not a tiki, and too big to be used as a mask.

    Appears to be Mexican. Heavy wood might be ironwood, commonly used in Mexican souvenir carvings.

    @journeymagazine
    just look at your photos Journey, the concrete sidewalk is showing thru the openings & looks a lot like plaster was put into the open spaces.
