We are reading in todays French newspaper, the braderie in Lille is cancelled. The mayor has said she cannot guarantee anyones safety. It is the first time it has been cancelled since 1944. Having been there many times, there is an enormous crush of people in the square in the town centre. We wondered how they could keep people safe. Was anyone going this year?

Sorry don't even know what that is.

It is a shame that we have to be afraid to attend events of any kind.
I'm afraid it may get worse. I don't see how they can control the lone person who takes it into their head to harm large groups.

Well, you could put handguns in the hands of untrained students & send them off to class.....

Just been another terrorist attack less than 75 miles away (121km) from Lille in Charleroi, Belgium.
    The cops shot him dead.

What a shame. France has been targeted so much this year. Hope that the braderie resumes later.

We have had some great times there and some great buys in the past. The atmosphere is fun and everyone has a good time. We have seen residents set up loudspeakers on their balconies playing dance music and people dancing in the street. Some business have 20% to 30% of their yearly turnover during this time. It is going to hit some businesses really hard.
