    I would say WWI era.

Can`t quite see the cap badges properly.

Crossed rifles usually denotes Infantry Marksman.
    Crossed swords usually denotes Cavalry

Thanks Dave. Even with a glass I cannot tell if it is swords or rifles. At least with the era it might be something good.

Are you sure it's US military? Definitely WWI era - could be Spanish American war, etc.

I thought they were the leather leggings but now i am not sure . There were mounted soldier (Horse) leggings that were half leather and half canvas . The leather ones apparently were not used much "in Battle" ..

The leather puttees were always a private purchase item and not issued, and were generally not worn by anyone in the field. Most officers wore either boots or wool puttees like the EM's. The leather puttees were too impractical for the field and are generally seen stateside, in the UK or well behind the lines.
However, many veterans purchased them after the war for wear with their uniform in parades as they were easier to deal with than the wrap puttees, which is why so many of them show up in veteran groups. In addition, they were worn after the war by police officers, bands, fraternal organizations, etc. The black ones the OP posted are more likely to have been worn by a cop in the 1920's then a Navy officer in France during WWI."

I had a pair and a "sam Brown belt circa 1921 that were perfect..
