didn’t want to put this in military as I very much doubt it is, why would there be any need for this shape? It’s just the look of the tin and the latche looking fixtures that look a little like military tin trunks and other items.

Does anybody know what it is?
It looks like the exact dimensions of a coffin right why would it need a little inner tray

Doll's coffin? Cigar-box? Snuffbox? Practice coffin for midget pallbearers?

    Toys for the undertaker's daughters?

What is the size of this roughly?

Judging by the mat, I'd say an inch or two wide, and maybe 6-7 inches long?

Is that an inner tray or is it the lid?

Here are the measurements they provided, sorry they’re in metric here. I’ve found in the UK people over around forty use imperial measurements and younger than that often know metric.

Well it looks like there is a lid and an inner tray aswell.

Until you go order a 60 inch Telly or a 12 inch Pizza,
People under 40 don`t seem to ask for a 152.4 cm flat screen Sony or a 30.48cm Margherita do they :D
BTW I still operate in Chains and Furlongs

20cm is around 7.8 inches for us old folks in old money.

We're having our house renovated. We had to remove all the furniture and 2/3 of it in storage. When we had to move our piano (a grand) the lady at the storage-facility asked me how big it was.

I said: "Six feet long" (because that's what it says in the paperwork, and I've always called it a 6ft grand, which it is), and she had absolutely no idea what I just said.

When I bought a car in Aussie I asked all the right questions, I said how many Km to the Litre did it do.
He told me to piss off, it was Imperial mpg and the tyres were in psi :D

I saw a gee-gaw (lol) on Ebay some time ago that had a coffin much like that one and when you flipped the lid a skeleton sat up in it, not saying this is one but the coffin sure looks like it ... Joy.

Up in North Yorkshire they give out coffin badges and other similar items if you complete the Lyke Wake Walk, its a gruelling 40 mile yomp across the bleak moors.

It follows the tradition of the local Monks who carried their dead in coffins across the moors to the sea.
This item might be a souvenir from that area.

I did that 40 mile walk, non stop, 44 years ago, in the winter.

    Its not a pleasant experience.

I was awarded a coffin badge for completing it.

Could be all those? Don’t think I’ll buy it, too uneasy at it. The material and the look just don’t line up with things like a salesman sample which would be perfect.
    Still a cool thing though.

Sorry about the metric imperial thing haha I didn’t mean to touch a nerve. It’s just my dad and most peoples go to measure for something they see out and about is in inches whereas everyone fairly young generally goes with cm in England I think.
