Hello all, I bought this rocker about 45 years ago from an ‘antique’ shop. Have done searches for Boston Rocker, Salem Rocker (shorter, yes?), Hitchcock (rounded front of seat?) and Nichols & Stone. There are no markings on the bottom, nor anywhere else that I can find. I was wondering if it’s a replica of a Nichols and Stone because of the shape of the top rail, the arms, the seat, and the rings on the backrest and legs. However, for some reason I had discounted N&S last week when I was searching.

I've enjoyed reading your posts for a while now, and am finally getting around to selling some things. This piece may not be worth anything because besides it possibly just being a knock-off, it may have too many small chips in the paint, plus the seat is slightly cracked as you can see. Any thoughts are Rocker--01_front_8081.jpg Rocker--02-fr side_8092.jpg Rocker--01_front_8081.jpg Rocker--02-fr side_8092.jpg appreciated.

I read, "Black Rocker" and my mind went in a totally different direction. Please carry on and wait for some replies that actually help you with your questions...

Doubt this is any earlier than the 50s.

It was probably almost new when you bought it. Similar paint scheme and design, with same eagle decal and writing, described in Worthpoint as "Colony Rocker by Lock 1776 made expressly for Montgomery Ward (usually printed on the metal plane on back of seat but this rocker no longer has the plate). Made in 1972." If that is reliable information, I assume yours is also made by "Lock 1776" (they started in the 60's), and from the same time period, sold as part of the bicentennial fever, if not for Monty Ward anniversary: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1972-vintage-colony-rocker-lock-1776-1886706061

There isn't much demand for these remakes of 19th century Windsors, though yours is in good shape. Even the old original 19th century Boston/Salem rockers take time to sell, even with good paint, and very hard to sell if stripped.
