Featured Blenko folks - some help/info on a penguin?

I picked up this lovely Blenko (at least believe it to be Blenko -it has Blenko sticker from the right time period) penguin yesterday - he's been attached to a little lamp base. The penguin is the larger size, 14" tall. Online searches and looking at the Blenko catalogs from the 80's show these were made from about 1980-1988. Most of the ones I'm seeing online are either blue or clear. I'm having a hard time finding other Blenko penguins in satin/frosted.

I've found a few amber penguins but none with the reddish head/beak that mine has, and none frosted/satin. Does anyone know if this satin finish was commonly available on these, or was this perhaps a one-off type thing?

Indeed it does! - Funny they use the penguin as an example of the Frost finish - I was even on that blenkocollectors.com colors page a couple of times and looked right past that finishes link. Thanks SIS!

That one looks like the same color (I think) - but doesn't look frosted to me.

 

I did the same thing. I didn't scroll down far enough.

I also looked through all the '80s catalogs, and only saw the same: penguins offered in Crystal, and Sapphire (cased with Crystal). The first catalog I found Frost finish was 1999. But no penguins... They could have been a special purchase at the gift shop, or one of their yearly glass expo sales. (Or I could have just missed them in the later catalogs.)

You might try contacting the Blenko Collectors site. I know one of the ladies used to post a lot on the eBay forums. She was always really friendly.

That's due to it being solid glass, not hollow, As the rest of it is.
