Blue Monochrome Vase

    Possibly Japanese. That brownish clay and greyish bottom is indicative.

    Thanks for the reply. Actually, the clay appears to be whitish. There is brown on the inside of the opening that I think is a slip or some kind of coating over which the glaze was applied.
    Not sure what do you mean by grayish bottom. The base has like a white glaze with some grits sticked to it and the foot rim shows some orange diacoloration that I think is possibly caused by some of the oxides in the glaze. Or it was deliberately colored.

    I also wonder what is the black shown in the last photo.There are other areas with similar black spots but they appear to be under the glaze. This one is over the glaze. Don't know if it is a production flaw or it was used to fill up a glaze skip or so.

    Hi,
    Sometimes in the kiln pieces of glazes from other pieces of pottery "explode" and fly off landing on other pieces. The black on your looks like it might some of that type of result. The under glaze black is just typical mottled glaze.
