I hope the first post of the new year is auspicious, but this is not a new find. Another item purchased in the ‘70s. I don’t remember what I paid, but I do remember buying these at a country auction. I thought they were cool, and there was no competition.

A set of bone checkers/draughts presented by A.W. Gamage Ltd. to John Alexander, winner of the English Tourney in 1906.

Alexander was an authority on the game, writing columns, co-authoring books, and continuing as a tournament player at least up to 1927.

Great set MOS! It is way cool.

This prize was well loved and used for a lot of games.

Imagine the tales they could tell.

Pretty nice! I guess "Gamage" was of the famous Gamages store in London.

Nice. Without all that history, they'd be minimal value, that adds to them greatly.
