True! I have a small library myself... :)

But on the other hand, there is a chance that somebody knows of a good book for that time period. I'm often amazed at the knowledge here. One good book could provide a good base, and it would need to be supplemented with other things, both print and online.

Lol, I haven't got room for more books in the library as they overspill into the Ballroom and Minstrels Gallery as it is!.
Just want something to give me general guidance as to the styles of the era.

Wow, some really stunning pieces on there. It has possibly answered one of my questions. I love the foil glass beads and have seen more for sale but was dubious as to their age as the foil inside looks much more regular than the pieces I own. Trying to sort the genuine from the Repro's!. There is a beautiful Peacock necklace on there in which the foil is very clean cut.

That sounds exactly what I'm after. I know that it's unlikely there is a comprehensive book but I wanted some basics as to what to look for.

I suggest past auction catalogs from major houses...

thanks to your suggestions I ended up buying the Vivienne Becker book after starting that thread and also "Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry, 1840-1950" by Jeanenne Bell which also has a section on art deco. I've read bits and bobs of both- my first impression is that the one by Jeanenne Bell talks a little more at length on historical context and general clothing fashions of the time if @KSW you're interested in that
