Featured boot snuff box help

hi folks

got this from an antique shop yesterday, thought £15 sounded fair, dont think i can loose on that much

thinking the wood is mahogany ?

unsure if the toe of the boot is supposed to represent a battered boot, or its been battered

any ideas of age would be helpful

any thoughts appreciated

 

what a sweet piece that is Charlie, I love it to me it looks like it has age, mid to late 1800s would be my guess. They were individually made, so maybe that is how the carver made it? Or maybe I'm not seeing the damage?

Shoe and boot-shaped snuff boxes were made throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Shoes have long been associated with love and marriage and were often given for good luck.

Antique shops are cheaper than charity shops these days

 

I think £15 was a bargain. I wonder if it might show a shoe covered by some kind of gaiter. Maybe it was some kind of promotional give away.

Georgian, that. And I think made to look as though it had a toe cap. Youve got 80 to 120 there.
