Even I could write a description for the spoon in that listing . . . even if the description went something like this:

"It's a spoon, folks, a teaspoon I think. It has Louis on it and the word Boston, look at the photo folks 'cause that's all you're gonna get from me about this spoon. If you like the photos you'll like the spoon. Hey man, at least I can't be accused of engaging in puffery!!!"

Sorry, Davey, it's not my spoon. It's your spoon. And it's about to take control of your computer.

Louis is the name of a restaurant in Boston. BUT I believe there was more than one with the same name since the 1800s.

    I really can't take a guess about Terry's. :yuck::D:rolleyes:

As far as Dayey's goes, (as pictured) it could be used as a self defense weapon.

We might be able to calculate a bit better if you know the maker, age, and size of the control key on his keyboard.

I prefer to just wait 'til he gets back and ask him.

I think it was like meant as a souvenir - 4-1/2 inches long

    No maker's mark

Well. Aquitaine may have nailed that one.

4 1/2" is a demitasse spoon. Fancy name. More common name, coffee spoon.

Hang on, it might be worth something next century.

There was a Louis of Boston on Newbury Street. It was a very high end men's clothing store. Suits started at $1000. They added women's clothing and a cafe restaurant. I think that's where the spoon came from. It closed for good in 2015. I don't think its the restaurant in Winthrop because people don't consider Winthrop "Boston".

The Louis I linked to is in Quincy. I think the other one I saw, but couldn't validate, was near the water but No address attached. That's why I thought there were more than one, not knowing if connected. Quincy is not technically in Boston but connected enough to be considered part of. It is actually closer to the harbor than most areas of Boston.

Duh! I meant to say Quincy but they mentioned a restaurant in Winthrop. (Sleep deprivation does things to your brain)

I actually live right near the Quincy border and I face Quincy right across the water. I still think the spoon is from the Newbury Street location. I have this vague memory of seeing that figure on the menu.

You are very likely correct. Is that the one with LOUIS painted on a large, very red wall? That was my first choice but I couldn't offer proof of it being ANYTHING other than a building with Louis on it. I tried for better.

I should have called my son, - he bounces between Raytheon offices - or granddaughter (his niece) in Arlington, and asked one of them to drive by - yeah, right!!

Here is a google image link. The very first photograph was the Newbury Street location. It was a free standing building with it's own driveway. In 2008, they moved, probably because of the tax rate as property values began to soar. The 3rd row down, 3rd picture from the left was the new location and that didn't work out very well.

    Thanks for the above.

YES! go another 6 rows down. That will be the only one I had found. Same building as yours in the 3rd row, but with a reduced view which could have been a veterinarian's office for all I could tell.

Do you think there was any connection to the one in Quincy?

I believe that is a different view of the new location.

Of the new location where? It's not the one in Quincy. Is there still one in Boston proper?

OK, so the fashion store was the red building with LOUIS on it. They also incorporated a restaurant into it. also called Louis.
