Brass Cigarette box advice on the greenies

    Hi all,
    I was wondering if there is a way to remove the green spots without damaging the patina.

    Yes made in India. I was told 40s notice no Made in India etched on the bottom. I love the brown patina.

    Cute Indian cigarette box, I agree, it is most likely the first half of the 20th century.
    This style is often called Benares brass, although strictly speaking that is only for religious items.
    What I usually do, is rub some oil on the verdigris, and see if it comes off with alcohol.

    Patina is basically aging. Your box has some tarnish, which could come off with vinegar. The real patina won't be hurt, but it will probably look cleaner and brighter. It is up to you which look you prefer.
