Brass containers.

    I found these containers in an old cigar box of my Uncles. He was a gun collector . I was hoping the forum could help me identify what they were used for, age, ect? Thanks so much. uploadfromtaptalk1439327635013.jpg

    They look like match holders, the bottom one being made of spent brass.

    Next time put a ruler in the photo, and show them open and from the base too......

    Dimensions always help. The background has squares yes but are they decorative or 1cm each or 1 inch each or one foot each? Do they come apart?

    There is absolutely no sense of scale here, as others have pointed out, so it makes it almost impossible to judge.

    But I'd say that they're probably something like what they used to give carrier pigeons? I dunno.

    Depending on size, the top one looks like the container for holding extra leads for a mechanical drawing set - compass,calipers, dividers, etc. I have some somewhere...............
