I have has an opinion on this that it's an inexpensive vase made for tourists. Someone else said it has Silver on it. I'm just looking for some more opinions?
    Thanks

Cairo1.jpg It has indeed silver on it, it is a piece for tourists made in early 20th c in Egypt. The technique is similar to Mamluk revival Cairoware like this example...

Is the silver tarnished and is it worth polishing?

@Lana - Personally, I wouldn't do anything to alter the patina, but it's really a matter of personal choice.

    Hi,
The tarnish is NOT patina. Patina on silver is very tiny scratches going in many different directions which gives a very soft sheen to the piece. Tarnish is just blackened areas of unpolished silver. Please, tarnish is never to be confused with patina.

Would LOVE to see this polished up ! Even more so , I would LOVE to find this for a small amount of money at the Flea market ...the free pile would be even better ! And I'll settle for the Thrift store ! Even my 4 year old seems to love anything with Egyptian motif : I think it's the Mummy connection !

Don't use silver polish. If you can get Goddards Silver Foam, use that gently. If not a silver polishing cloth. I'd also brush it off and wash it before cleaning, it may have a fair bit of grit on it.

    PUT DOWN THE BICARB! ;)

And leave it alone now, it's fine. Doesn't need anything further doing.
