Has anyone seen this piece before? I cannot locate any marks. It comes in 3 separate pieces, with the horse's rear hoofs balancing nicely into spots on the base. Likewise, the fence fits into slots. I'm not sure why all this wasn't fixed. The whole thing is beautifully balanced, but I suspect not pet proof!. I've had no luck with web searches, as any item I've found is fixed or in the case of the horse, in a different pose. Any feedback on the item would be greatly appreciated, makes a beautiful desk piece. Thanks

I'd say the previous owner the polished the horse, the other 2 pieces have a nice patina. The lighting doesn't help with the effect. I'd probably agree, maybe like mid-century, but the absence of anything similar on the web is compounding dating the piece. Thanks anyways for looking.

Abegweit, I have looked & looked for one like yours, without success.

When I first saw your picture, all I could think was That horse is going to get hurt! (Model horses are so often shown in untenable positions...)

Really, though, what intrigued me is that this horse is made much the same way as one my daughter had (probably still has, packed away) when she was a kid (1990's.)

Hers, however, was (as far as I recall) plastic - most likely a Breyer model, but possibly Peter Stone or even GC. I recall the little "cup" that held the tail, and the indentations for the feet & fence. (I did a quick search on the Breyer ID site but didn't find the particular one she had/has.)

You mentioned that yours is not "pet proof" - and you're right! I remember that one or another of our cats knocked down my daughter's models way too often!

Anyway, maybe none of that helped at all, but I thought that maybe it was worth mentioning.

Is the stand sort of round? or does it have a flat side behind the fence? I'm wondering if it could have been a book end

I always want to see the bottom of it. I guess this goes back to an incident in my hometown in the 1950's. A man was found dead on the sidewalk. The county coroner examined him at the morgue and assigned a cause of death of "heart attack" or the proper medical term for that, I forget exactly. Later the morgue crew was picking the corpse up preparatory to burial and turned it over to find the handle of a knife sticking out between the corpse's shoulder blades. True story!

    Thanks for the replies.

The stand is oval, with I suppose what you would call a "terrain" surface on the top for lack of a better description. Bottom has 3 raised bumps which elevate the base a bit, the texture on the bottom is different than the top, a assume a result of the mold. Best description I can think of for the bottom pattern would be to describe it as like a screen you'd see in a door or window. I've examined all the pieces and cannot locate a foundry mark anywhere. Has to be display piece for a desk or shelf as opposed a kid's toy, although I imagine it's been eyed by more then a few.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

That's not a pearl balanced on the end of the horse's tail, is it?
