Would you call this art deco? I'm not sure how to list it or if it's brass or bronze. Very heavy. This is the one we found below the floor boards in the attic. IMG_8509.jpg IMG_8508.jpg IMG_8519.JPG

It still has its liner too. I'm almost surprised. If the kids, the dog and time in general didn't get them, the USPS gets its licks in.

Turn of the century. The shape of the body looks neoclassical, I agree.

So, ca. 1900. The little ridge at the front is for resting your pen on, when not writing.

The liner is made of porcelain. Usually made to standard sizes, and yes, they often drop out and get smashed. Nice to have the original, although you can also buy replacements these days of glass or porcelain.

You guys are better than AI! That brass one on Etsy is really shiny. Mine is heavy and I think it's bronze. There is a space about 12-14" between the attic floor and the ceiling on the second floor. Next to the chimney is a gap about 3'x2' which someone said was a space for a flue from the lower floors. Anyway, we found this inkwell and a cut glass open salt. No idea why they were stashed there. One of these days we'll get a flashlight in there and see if there's anything else.
