    Several people have seen this and no one knows what it is.

    It is not a door knocker and its not a door bell.

    Heavy brass, no markings, no means of attaching it to anything, no screw or bolt holes.

    The small cup item hanging on a chain fits inside the larger hole on the back but does not stay in, no thread.

    Great point AJ.

    Perhaps we have been holding this item the wrong way and displaying it with the decorative part at the front.

    It is hollow so yes the oil would go in the large hole and the wicks in the two smaller.

    Once you've got the wrong end of the thing, there is no way you can imagine what it is supposed to be.;)

    My mother used to collect antique hanging oil lamps, so I recognized that odd harpoon-like hanging hook, and saw the rest from there.
    Those little lamps could hang from any ledge in a house or cabin, and be taken from room to room without a problem.

    Just a quick post before dinner, I suspect yours is 1960s-70s Greek import. They would still have been used in the eastern European countryside at the time. Probably still are, in some parts.

    Thanks AJ

    I have found two very similar described as Roman / Greek neo classical oil lamps.
    Even Pompeii

    :rolleyes::banghead:
    To be fair, the first one says Roman style, but they know that some people will interpret that as genuine Roman.

    But then there is this gem of a sentence:

    "The body has a copper malachite mineral growth spot on the back of the acanthus leaf detail." :pompous:

    Back home we simply call that verdigris.:hilarious:
