So I read this as a direct, nearly obscene retort to Andy Warhol.

I'm trying to find another in its style but have failed to do so. Definitely could be a one-off, by anybody really, but could it be by someone famous?

The box seems vintage 1960s based on my research, which fits Warhol's period.

The erupting material is some kind of injectable foam, perhaps insulation, and then somehow painted black. The box feels full of it, as the whole 'sculpture' is rigid.

Here's some interesting facts about Warhol's Brillo boxes:

Thanks for any comments or leads on contexts or artists.

The zip code dates it to post-1963. The UPC was introduced in 1974 but it took a few years to roll-out. So you've got a 15-ish year window.

Huh. Thanks for that! So that does put it kinda in the period where those Warhol ones were still controversial...

Sorry you had to crane your neck on that pic! Here it is more clearly:

Definitely could be a satirical response/rebuke to Warhol-very interesting piece. It's quite a statement piece, could be by a student or someone more prominent.
One of the weirder and more intriguing pieces shared here-worth some detective work Pot.
