    Hi,
Hal was a short lived company from 1950 to 1960. The made wonderful costume jewelry.

What are the other marks? One looks like a lion passant?

50s 60s fits although I thought it might be earlier, were Hal a London company?

Yes it does look like a lion so does that mean sterling silver?
The other marks I cannot define they are just to small.

Have you looked with a jewellers loupe? If it is a lion passant then that does indicate English silver. See if there is a tiny Anchor also because there was a Birmingham maker H A Lane who signed HAL, registered in 1919, the jewellery looks more 50s to me but who knows if it is Lane and he/she went on producing items for decades.

    Hi ,
The American company HAL was the one I was referring to. If it is British I shut my mouth. The American company made gorgeous costume jewelry no precious stones or metals.

That looks like a British silver hallmark to me.

It's brooch, by the way. ;)

I think the jewelry was made to look like Russian enamel jewelry.
The brooch is cobalt blue as well, correct?
If that is a silver mark, then the set is most likely gold plated.
    A very nice looking set.

(Greg, are you sure you don't mean HAR jewelry? :) Hadn't heard of HAL, but you could be correct. Just was thinking of it because I recently sold a piece of HAR...)

Can't help with the brooch earrings, but the Hallmarks are definitely worth looking into. Maybe a clearer close-up photo would help.

Best of luck identifying this lovely set.

    Hi Lucille,
Mea culpa. I was thinking HAR. Hal was sticking in my head. Thank you for reminding me that I am old and senile.

On zooming on those marks, they do not appear to be British hallmarks. The one on the left made be an animal, but not the Lion Passant for British purity sterling mark. Then again it may be 2 overlapping letters or a man pushing a lawn mower! The middle punch looks like the letter "S." The punch on the far right looks like a lower case letter such as a "n", or "h?" Neither of the 2 marks on the right are an anchor, crown, leopard's head or any British city mark. Here are my edited versions to see if y'all agree or if you see something different.

@Martymcfly Are the marks hard to read when you look at the brooch, or could the photo be better? Clearer close-up photos (of the mark) would be helpful.

Reserving judgment until the OP provides a clear image, and can definitely see your lawn mower guy, Susan - but to my eye, looks like maybe 1978 London marks. Seems fairly well made, with bezel-set cabochons and a hinged pendant bale on the brooch, but oddly, the decoration around the edges and in the center of the stones look like solid metal versions of prong-set gems - perhaps cast reproductions of an antique set...

    That's what I see , Cheryl !
While they may be fuzzy........I see a lion ,leopard head , and a D......
To me they look consistent with true British hallmarks.

    I'm not seeing this.....

And yet, I would like to see that, especially mowing my yard instead of me...
