Bronze/brass Nubian servant figurines

Got a pair of these today. They are pretty identical. I have a suspicion that they are brass made to look bronze. Roughly 20cm tall.

 

They look more Classical Greek to me

 

I thought so too but, on the internet, they are (generally) described as Venetian Blackamoor figures.

I would go with the 'blackamoor' description. Are they candle holders? They remind me of the torch bearing figures that were popular newel post lamps at one time.

 

They certainly look like candle holders and have been used as such.
