I've posted some time ago, don't remember here or on Ebay. Forgot what were the comments but I think someone suggested a part of a lamp. It's about 5" tall, opening on both ends. Quite heavy.
Any suggestions on origin, age, purpose...
    Thanks

Greek Revival crematory urns is my guess - I wanted to say those are caryatids, but they're not holding anything up... if that's the case, what are they?

Ooops, I see it's open on both ends - is it possibly missing the base as well as a lid?

"Modern Cremation Urns" as seen in the Fresh Pond Crematory, Long Island, New York, in 1896.

It looks like this has a hole both top and bottom so a lamp part seems more likely.

    I revised after I reviewed it... :)

    It's cool, I like it.

Brad, what's the figurine if it's not a caryatid?

    Maybe Egyptian revival and sphinx.

Those winged female figural handles look in the Rococo style of late Louis XV. I'm saying style and *not* of that period. If it has holes top and bottom then it screams lamp especially if the hole at the bottom is as pronounced as the hole at the top. Those heads don't have an Egyptian flavor to me. Their hair style looks more of the woman of Louis XV court - European.

If it started life as a lamp, I doubt such a heavy lamp had only those 2 feet as the base. I would have thought those 2 feet sat on a square solid base. A lamp this big and heavy would have 3 or 4 feet or if just 2 attached somehow to a square base.

It really seems like the bottom is missing another round element and the hole is recessed - I can't envision the two parallel feet supporting it on something flat.

Maybe a turned marble or alabaster base?
