Featured Brooch, silver. Strange attachment of stones.

Silver. Size 35x16 mm. The stones are strangely fixed. They seem to be sunk into the silver. Please provide information.

 

Hmm those look like old mine cut diamonds. I bet the foil behind them tarnished.

 

Yes, the stones do not shine, they are transparent.

 

I've never seen stones that beat up and chipped ...

 

Georgian Black dot paste that's had a rough time of it? They do look very clear, I wouldn't be surprised if they came up positive.

 

Some have defects.

Agree.

It is a nice brooch, but the silver looks cast instead of hammered from a sheet of silver. If I am seeing it right, it is not as old as it would like to make us think it is.
I also don't like the gaps in between stones and settings, that is usually not a good sign.

I'd like better eyes on this to confirm or deny my observations, so tagging @kyratango and @Dessert58 .

Looks like paste with silver foil back. To me it looks old, late Georgian, start of Victorian is what I would say

Is the gold loop a repair? If those stones are paste, why put a gold repair on it? bwdik?
