i think its burl wood, odd melted like appearance

presuming the carved circular area is for a functional use ?, something missing ?

yeah have considered that buddy, i'm wondering if that open wedge on the base is intentional for a lamp lead maybe looking at it now

so could be bits missing if so

possible , but you'd want the wire to be behind......and drilling a hole 4 that ...simple..

I think more likely a simple chimney, over a tea-lite or votive candle.

i kinda dig that idea, the wood being lit by candle light (not literally)

Pics 4 and 5 show evidence of worm.

If true, they will be long gone.

Personally, I would not put an open flame (Candle) anywhere near it.

I wouldn't either, but in the 1970s wooden candleholders were a decor item here. A lot of them were meant to hang on walls, but this one would fit in. These days if I used it, I'd use a battery-operated candle.

might be ok with a chimney though as whit suggested, if i can find one with the same diameter it will slot right in perfect, maybe even a modern coloured one

So maybe the central hole is for the tea light and a glass cover slotted into the outer?

yeah i think so buddy, that would be quite an easy fix up if correct. I think a straight glass tube chimney would be best.

was gonna sell as is but a little work on it might be a better plan (people seem to want things ready to go)

still think it would sell better as a lamp though

........... thinking about it i could just buy or find a little mcm type lamp and stick it to it
