Caged Glass

I saw a post here last week about a caged glass shade and it reminded me of this piece. The cage was painted gold by someone and the paint is on the glass. The chain is not original. I had no idea what it was or where it might have been made until that post last week.

The glass has bulbous areas that protrude out of the cage although, it is difficult to see the shapes in my photographs. I've searched Mexican, Spanish and Murano but haven't found one in this shape. It has some age to it but couldn't guess how much. 14" tall by 13" wide. Any idea who, what, where or when? Thank you.

 

I think it's missing it's top.... and probably was a lamp/shade like mine. The top would have had the lamp in it. I'll add a pic in momentarily. Interesting shape on that one!

Thank you for posting the photographs. You're right the top is definitely missing.

My other photographs were taken outside and were a bit washed out. Here is one more photograph with my lights set up.

 

Any guesses where this came from?

 

That metalwork does actually look Italian.

 

Thanks Bear. I haven't seen anything shaped like this while searching on the net so I didn't have a clue where it came from. Maybe searching in Italian will turns up something. I'll let you know if I have any success.
