I was wondering what sort of a bowl this is? A cake stand or a decorative bowl?

It's said to be Victorian, but is it early or late Victorian? What decade?

    Isn't it pretty?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The auction calls it a comport. That is an older name for a compote, I believe. And it might be in current use in Great Britain??? Not sure but the seller appears to be there.

To me it does not look deep enough for a compote.

That's a comport. Used for grapes and such. Might be Davenport.

I don't know the correct answer, but it is a beauty!
