Featured Calligraphy Nib Holder Carved Head Top

Hi all,
I have this calligraphy nib holder with a little carved head on the end - would this be considered a folk art piece? It is 6 3/4"L, signed I assume by the carver. What type of wood is this?
any information appreciated.

in the photo it does look like letters but they are chips in the wood as komokwa noted

Hi cxgirl, I think your pen nib holder is terrific!! And it does look pretty similar to the Anri ones on Worthpoint!! However, I just cannot justify pulling the name "Anri" out of that signature on yours.....JMHO!!!! There IS a R. Audet, artist who does carving and Folk Art carving, but couldn't find any pen nib holders by him (I think 'him')......

 

The face is so typical of Anri work. I've had quite a few Anri pieces and it's quite distinctive. The name may be the owner, not the carver.

Looks similar but not Anri - page below came from a fellow on the Anri site, he said not Anri.
