hello all, just got these little baby's in. Two calves attached to each other, in a sort of drinking position. No makers mark's or signature I could find. The groupe is about 20/12.5/10 cm. Got fine crack lines in the glazing. My main question is what would you date it. I will come up with more pic's in a minute.
Idle guess: 1910s/'20s? Influence of Rembrandt Bugatti? No sentimentality there. In English: calf (singular), calves (plural)
Ok thanks. Also my opinion. But when seing this owl; https://www.antiquestradegazette.co...&utm_source=atgnl&utm_campaign=atgnl-30032021 I started doubting, because I would have date that owl, also 1910 to 1930....
I think the modelling on the calves is more interpretive than on the owl - more to do with how the materials were handled, less to do with the actual look of a calf. I think the quality of the owl speaks for itself, but don't know what date I might have guessed out of context. Old, I would have thought, but that's about it.
Looks like there might be something inside the red circle on the bottom of the hoof, but it’s pretty hard to see, and may also be nothing......
Manage to check it just now! Sorry for the delay. Many thanks moreotherstuff for pointing this out. I missed it. Although it aint very clear. I took more pictures, but the pic you used to point it out, might be sufficient. The zone you marked in red, seems to be nothing. But just out side and on the red mark (at about 10 o'clock) I seem to see a small triangle... And on the ohter hoof, just above the hoof that is marked I seem to see like a letter; "C". ...."C"oincidence ....or marks...what do you think?
