    Hello everyone,
The below cameo is a new acquisition, I am not quite sure if it depicts Hebe feeding Zeus, as most cameos that I came across there was Hebe feeding Zeus the eagle. This is quite unique as the woman is feeding a snake. Is it possible that the woman portrayed is Hebe and the snake is Zeus, then who is the man?
The frame is made of yellow metal, and it swivels.
If you would like more photos, please let me know .
I would appreciate if anyone venture to date this cameo as well.
    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Simona

Asclepius (/æsˈkliːpiəs/; Greek: Ἀσκληπιός Asklēpiós [asklɛːpiós]; Latin: Aesculapius) is a hero and god of medicine in ancient Greek religion and mythology. ?????

I would guess the woman is making an offering to the man, not the snake.

Her name is Hygeia, daughter of the famed physician & she is feeding the snake.

Just discovered that my page on Asklepios & his daughter is throwing up a 404 error message.

Again 2nd 1/2 of 1800's. Also it swivels....why?...Perhaps it had a picture or hair on the backside? May have had an oval glass also? Nice wear on the shell cameo. Even though it has a crack, subject matter makes up for a lot of ughs.

Yes, this would once have had a glass covered compartment on the flip side to hold a photo or memento. The swivel allowed it to be worn with either side to the public.
