Featured Cameo

So I’ve gotten into a debate about what this cameo is made of...ie resin, soapstone etc with a friend. Can someone tell me what they think it is made of (you are able to see light through it when held up)

 

It appears to be hardstone (agate).

 

And a nice one! Needing a bath

 

She is a beauty, so much nicer than the other ones you showed.

 

I'm not feeling comfortable with my original assessment. It was based on the second photo, which gave me, in the wee hours of the morning, the impression of there being a thin layer of color between the figure & the main body of the ground. But bothered by uneven appearance of the back, chunkiness of metal frame & cream color of figure. Think what I'm seeing as a layer is really glare, a trick of the lighting. Inclined now to resin, very sophisticated resin.

 

Try the tooth tap test, the way plastic feels tapped on your front tooth is completely different than the way stone feels. Have samples of known plastic and stone available for comparison

 

I don't think either of them has it in their possession; they are trying to guess from photos. With it in hand there would probably be little doubt about the material.

 

Ah, that didn’t occur to me, she didn’t say that in her post

 

I had an ADD moment, and read that completely wrong, leaving out essential words, which led to a different meaning of possession.
