Hey guys, I'm completely new to this kind of tool, but was curious if anyone could identify a couple things on this piece for me.

I would like to know what kind of planer this is- what its made to do, what kind of wood it is made of, and if anyone can identify the logo/insignia on the front of it to help identify the maker.

The only markings on it are the 'MADE IN AUSTRIA' and the logo pictured, and then on the back side opposite the insignia there is a number '2'.

    Thanks in advance! IMG_3439.JPG IMG_3440.JPG IMG_3441.JPG

It's short so not meant for long strokes and could be for most anything especially if the blade is not shaped.
    Nice though. :)

I'd call it a block plane. Possibly Beech. Certainly 20th C. An every day tool for a joiner or carpenter. I do not think the maker is of any significance.
