Can anyone tell me anything about my slant top desk?

This has been in our family for generations. My aunt says that it was always called "General Herkimer's desk" but in my genealogical research I don't see any family connections, though we did have ancestors that lived in upstate NY at the same time.
It has a secret compartment behind the middle section, but the mechanism that opens it has failed and now I can't get it open.
I'd love to know when it was made and where. Also any advice on getting it restored. IMG_2495.jpeg IMG_2496.jpeg IMG_2499.jpeg IMG_2500.jpeg

Feet are very distinctive, not seen that detail before ...knobs look original too so mid 19thc would be my guess ...style is 18thc BTW
