That picture of the marking looks rather blurry - is it that blurry in person or just hard to focus the camera on?

MrNate, that's a very pretty plate, but I'm afraid that (as Bakers has said) the mark is just too blurry to make out.

I wonder whether the plate is shown upside down. Was looking at Gotheborg and one of the Japanese mark plate examples mentioned a particular way that artists in that location were trained to paint wisteria blooms (which hang.)

@MrNate Is that plate on top of a whole stack of the same? If so, any chance that one of the others has a clearer mark?

I'm beginning to think it may be a Satsuma plate? I really don't know what that is, but Satsuma plates seem similar.

That is possible, but I have not found a good match for the mark on Gotheborg. All the straight lines and (mostly) right angles is not very common. And even less common is black ground for a gold mark (without a rectangular outline.) There is one, but it is not match. Close but no cigar.

BTW, I have come to believe that the correct orientation of this mark is a 90 degree clockwise turn from the way your picture is oriented.

I have found a lot of similar marks by searching for meiji satsuma marks but yes without the outline is not as common I can see.

Were you using Dr. Google or did you go straight to Gotheborg?
