Hey all! I haven't posted in quite some time but am back with a question! Got this chain at a sale and its a tri color rope chain 14k. However it is a bit too short for me, it fits like a choker and I need to lengthen it by 1 to 2 inches. Unfortunately its a box clasp so I can't just throw on an extender. Is it possible to lengthen this at all? Any advice? I just love the tri color

The only thing I can think of is to attach the same size box clasp to the ends of an extension chain.

I think a competent goldsmith/jeweler could offer good options for your chain...with moderate cost for their labor, but $$$ for the gold fittings an' chain. Good luck, Spart...!

It's likely do-able. The end that pushes in has a loop on the end, and it should be possible to open it there and add some chain. It's a job for a competent bench jeweler though, not some retail hack.

To have it inkeeping with the original is a tricky job. It's not like you can just add extra links like a standard figaro or what have you. It's quite awkward to solder rope chain because the solder flows into it and makes it inflexible. Tricky

Perhaps if you could source the same clasp you could have a short piece of rope chain linking the two parts of it which would clip into the existing two halves of the chain.

I've done that before. Clip a bracelet to a necklace and it looks like a chain that can be worn at two lengths.

I have similar chain (just with different clasp) now is a little "tight" for me :grumpy: and I wear it now as a "two loops bracelet". Looks amazing. :p

it's a lovely chain , I wear one like it.... I just don't see how to make it longer without losing it's elegance or changing it's look and feel in unwanted ways...

Chin's suggestion is interesting....but the added weight would mean that with normal movement the clasps will continually move down to the neckline and look like pendants.....
