    Hi everyone!

I bought this as 18k but the mark looks like 10k to me. I acid tested and can you give me your opinion on the results? I don’t want to be wrong. Thank you so much for the help

Did you scrape it enough on the stone to get through the rhodium plating? The inside of the ring shank looks strange in the photo.

I scraped hard. Should I try again?

Looking at the shank someone else was scraping hard as well before me.

It might be platinum. Just a thought.

Been out on the road. I’ll get a chance to test Sunday afternoon and post what I find. The diamond is very clean and clear. Platinum would make sense

If it is platinum, it could be a plate. I have a similar ring same vintage that is plat.plated.

Platinum plating over white gold? Probably been done. It does look like an 18k mark from here.

@antidiem finally got back to testing things and this did not hold at all on platinum Holds but fades a little at 18k and stays really strong at 14k It must be in between somewhere I think that used to be common with older rings The mark is just so hard to read!

16K has been used off and on for many years. https://www.911metallurgist.com/gold-purity-testing/

Thanks for checking on this, Gauntlett! I really thought it would test for a platinum finish, but in a way, be glad it didn't. I'd much rather have any karat of solid gold that is not plated with anything!
