Picked up this little carving today. It is a grand total of 2" tall not including the little stand I found for it when I got home. I'm pretty sure it is resin of some sort, but it has A convincing look of Ivory. Has two impressed Japan marks on the bottom.

The disk they stand on appears to be Celluloid or similar. Is the whole piece fairly light in weight?

I once found a box of close to 30 of those wood bases in various sizes at an estate sale. They weren't old but they were $5.

Sometimes i get very lucky matching them up. This is a marriage. and
It fit so well that the vase at 5 pounds spins on the base with no effort.

It must be so satisfying when you have just the right stand.

Yes, it is resin, but one of those quality pieces that has some value. That base really 'elevates' them.:playful:

I hope it elevates them in more ways than one.
I really do use the bases as more of a selling tool. seems to work for me.
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate every one of you.

It does.:) Both in height and in value, should you sell the base with the elephants.

If your local auction house is selling an Asian collection it’s worth checking the back end of the catalog/listings for a lot of these bases. I’ve bought serval large boxes full in those circumstances. From tiny to big ones. If there’s some real high quality old ones in the lots they will sell for decent money but if it’s vintage bases of average quality they can slip through real cheap.
