Carved Face with bird

Small carving of a face with a bird (4"H). Would this be North American or somewhere else?

Isn't south of the Rio Grande still North American, as long as it is Mexico?

But I agree, Aztec, etc. inspired.

 

Looks to be a small carved souvenir mask from México. And, poor fellow, wouldn't an eagle be more in keeping with his fierce expression? Rather than Looney Tune bird?

Well yes ...on a map...but in the lingo , North American, refers only to Canada & the USA, when talking about 1st nations art work.

 

Sorry, too European here, since I thought of it as a Mexican tourist mask, I didn't realize cxgirl posted this in the tribal forum and might have meant 1st Nation.

Agree with Komo, we got to see it and say something about it. I usually just look at the titles anyway, which is why I didn't see it was the tribal forum.
By the way, I think it is charming, and the bird could be a quetzal - smallish head, long tail.
