    Looks like a demon bunny. Designed to hit all the notes that might appeal to tourists (which is frightening in itself). Not any traditional type of object I have ever seen, but possibly made somewhere in west Africa.

    It's a tourist souvenir, a take-off of a n'kisi figure from the Congo Basin of central Africa.

    The old, authentic pieces had the hollow filled with spiritually-charged objects or substances, used to harness the spirits of the dead. They were used to aid in communication with the dead, for healing, and many other purposes.

    The Bakongo and Songye are probably the main cultures associated with the practice, but this may well have been made by someone else.
