Looks pretty recent. Studio pottery? Maybe with Asian origin?
    Thanks

I guess carved is not the right term. Not sure how the shape images were done. Maybe when the clay was soft, as you said, stamps were used to press them?

Much like Navajo silver work these designs were stamped into the clay.

I just posted a piece here with just about the same design, same bottom, a bowl in blue. If you every find maker, please let me know :)

Just in the interest of accuracy, mishima is a different technique, where a design is incised into the leather-hard clay, and then filled with a contrasting slip. This piece was stamped, then glazed.

There are goggle wheels, which make a continuous pattern when rolled over the clay, but the uneven spacing of the imprints here would indicate that these were individually hand-stamped.
