Carved Jade? Elephant on wood stand

This was the information on the reseller's tag: "40s 50s carved jade elephant on wooden stand." To give you a sense of size, the elephant and stand are 5 1/2 inches tall by 5 inches long. It is translucent and has inclusions. You can see can see the carving marks, though the piece is well-polished. I removed the tag to uncover any hidden mark, but there was none. I have two locations in my house - carved jade and pretty carved rocks. Which place should this elephant go? Any thoughts, suggestions or comments will be gratefully appreciated.

So you think it's jade then.

 

One simple test you can do (on the underside of a foot so it doesn't show). Take a sewing pin and try and scratch the surface, if it is jade you shouldn't be able to scratch it. This isn't conclusive but it is a good sign.

It's just a matter of a few inches. I have bookcases full of rocks - most natural, some polished, and some carved. The good stuff is on the top, that's all.
